  A general overview of listening and its function in effective communication encounters. This course covers the following content areas: need for listening, listening as a component in a transactive communication process, process of listening, types of listening (discriminative, comprehensive, therapeutic, critical, appreciative), and listening in various communication settings (as audience, in interpersonal relationships and in group decision making). Replaced by CMST 223 effective Fall, 2011.
