AVT 2351   Audio Practicum Level 3 3  
  The audio practicum courses provide students with concentrated hands-on experience with a variety of sound production, maintenance, and measurement/calibration activities in a lab environment. Students are required to select three different lab areas in each of the levels of the practicum from the following list: sound recording, sound reinforcement, acoustics, systems design/installation, equipment maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and new technologies. Recording - This practicum shows the practical application of sound track recording. A student performs the jobs of first or second engineers in a studio and are required to produce a completed program on tape. Sound Reinforcement - This practicum gives practical experience in live or commercial sound reinforcement. A student performs the job of first or second engineers on live concerts and are required to plan, set up, and engineer completed programs at remote venues. Acoustics - This practicum gives practical experience in acoustics. A student performs the job of acoustical measurement technician or designer and is required to produce a completed design and/or test report. Systems Design/Installation - This practicum gives practical experience in live or commercial sound system design and installation. A student performs the job of system design engineer and installation contractor to produce a completed installation. Equipment Maintenance - This practicum covers maintenance techniques used by industry for audio equipment. In the lab the student applies theory by setting up, testing, and analyzing the equipment and performing standard routine maintenance on it. Equipment Troubleshooting This practicum covers troubleshooting techniques used by industry to repair electronic equipment. In the lab the student applies theory by setting up, testing, and analyzing the inoperative equipment. Troubleshooting problems may include the system, the modular and component level.
