ESCI 114   Natural Disasters 4  
  This course provides an in-depth investigation of natural phenomena that have potentially disastrous effects on humans and the environment. Topics are investigated from both a historical and a current perspective, and include earthquakes, volcanism, landslides, severe weather, shoreline problems, flooding, astronomical activities, and future global issues. Exploration methods will include discussions on cause and effect, discussions of prediction and prevention, reading and writing activities, media studies, Internet research, and data collection and analysis. Laboratory activities include using inquiry-based modules and online resources along with several real-time data collecting projects. This course is delivered in an online format and requires computer and internet access. - 3 hours, laboratory - 2 hours.
